KARACHI: Sindh’s government has decided to form a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on recovery of a large consignment of munitions from Azizabad, a local news channel reported.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan is highly expected to be interrogated in this incident, the news channel added. Police sources have confirmed that the Law Enforcement Agencies (LEA) have been activated to dig up munitions’ stockpiles in different areas of the city.
According to the sources, a JIT was formed to investigate the ammunition recovery incident and to interrogate those involved – including MQM Pakistan. Investigation sources said it was the largest recovery of munitions in the history of Karachi.
The LEAs on Wednesday captured a large consignment of arms and explosives in the city – kept hidden in the water tank of a house in Azizabad. Arms and munitions have been transferred to the army’s ordnance depot for forensic analysis of the weapons to know whether they were used in the incidents of crimes and terrorist attacks, official sources said.
Police has sought help of the army for the weapons analysis due to lack of modern facilities in the police department, sources said. Experts could not analyse the sub-machine guns (SMGs), rocket launchers, G3 rifles, light machine guns (LMGs) and anti-aircraft guns, sources further said.
