ISLAMABAD: Five civilians including a boy were killed and several others injured due to the firing of the Indian forces on peaceful protesters in Srinagar and Budgam districts, Kashmir Media Service (KMS) reported.
Four protestors were killed while over a dozen wounded when the Indian police and troops opened fire at Aripanthan in Beerwah area of Budgam district. A student of 10th class, Muhammad Yasir Sheikh, was also among the killed after the Indian police directly fired upon the demonstrators in Batamaloo area of Srinagar.
With these killings, the death toll in the ongoing Kashmir intifada has risen to 79, that was triggered by the extra-judicial killing of the top commander of freedom fighters group Hizbul Mujahideen, Burhan Wani, on July 8, this year.
Besides killing of 79 people, over 8,000 people have been injured so far due to the firing of pellets, bullets and teargas shells by Indian troops and police personnel on peaceful protesters across the Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the authorities continue to impose curfew and other restrictions for the 39th consecutive day across the territory to prevent people from staging demonstrations against the killings of civilians.
Almost all Hurriyet leaders including the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Bilal Siddiqui, Zafar Akbar Butt and Muhammad Rafiq Ganai have been put under house arrest or behind the bars to prevent them from leading the demonstrations.
